The University of Central Florida’s summer theater season features three shows – a comedy, a thriller and a farce.

The UCF SummerStage opens its 2011 season on Thursday, June 9, with Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park.” The multiple Tony-winning comedy about newlyweds brings together a free-spirited young woman, a very sensible young man, and their oddball neighbors.

Directed by UCF veteran Mark Brotherton, the cast features theater students as well as top-notch guest professionals, including area favorite Robin Olson and Equity actor  Donald Seay.

Later in June comes “Veronica’s Room,” a chilling mystery-thriller by Ira Levin, famous for “Deathtrap” and “Rosemary’s Baby.” A young couple is asked to do a favor for an elderly couple, but might there be more going on than meets the eye?

In July, “Love, Sex, and the IRS” romps through farce with twists of fate, sight gags and mistaken identities. The day of reckoning arrives for two out-of-work musicians when an IRS investigator arrives.

“Barefoot in the Park” opens in the Black Box Theatre at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 9. The theater is on campus near the intersection of University Boulevard and Alafaya Trail in east Orlando.

Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays, through June 19.

To purchase tickets or for ticket information call the box office at 407-823-1500. Ticket prices are $19 for adults, $17 for seniors older than 55 and $12 for students, with group rates also available.
